Pear Baby Puree

Ripe pears chopped, cooked briefly and blended into a creamy, naturally sweet puree for babies.

Recipe in testing: I'm cooking it in my TM7™ and will update the steps and the photo with my own.

A small glass jar of smooth, creamy pear puree with a silicone baby spoon and two fresh green pears beside it.

Pears are juicy, mild and naturally sweet, and they make one of the creamiest fruit purees for babies. Use pears that are ripe, soft near the stem and fragrant, like Bartlett or Anjou. There is no sugar, salt or honey here, only pears and a spoonful of water to get them started.

The Thermomix® TM7™ chops the pears, cooks them for about ten minutes until tender and then blends them silky in the same bowl. Pears release a lot of juice, so the puree comes out quite loose. If you want it thicker for an older baby, stir in a spoonful of oatmeal baby cereal.

Instructions

  1. Place the pears in the mixing bowl and chop 4 sec/speed 4.
  2. Scrape down the sides of the mixing bowl with the spatula, add the water and cook 10 min/100°C (212°F)/speed 1, until the pears are very soft.
  3. With the measuring cup in place, blend 1 min/speed 5-10, increasing speed gradually, until smooth and creamy.
  4. Let the puree cool until lukewarm, check the temperature on the inside of your wrist and serve a small portion in a bowl.

Tips

  • Ask your pediatrician before starting solids and about the right texture for your baby's age. First purees are usually very smooth; as your baby grows, blend less, and later offer soft, ripe pear mashed with a fork.
  • Keep the puree covered in the fridge up to 3 days, or freeze it in an ice cube tray, then move the cubes to a freezer bag and use them within 2 months. Thaw in the fridge overnight.
  • Pears ripen on the counter. Buy them a few days ahead and check near the stem: when it gives a little to gentle pressure, they are ready.
  • Serve from a small bowl, not from the storage jar, and throw away what your baby does not finish.
