Recipe in testing: I'm cooking it in my TM7™ and will update the steps and the photo with my own.

A small glass jar of smooth green avocado mash with a silicone baby spoon and a fresh halved avocado beside it.

Avocado is one of the easiest first foods to make at home: no cooking and no peeling, just a ripe avocado and a splash of liquid. It is naturally soft and creamy, with a mild flavor that many babies take to quickly. There is no salt, sugar or honey in this mash, only the fruit and a little water, breast milk or formula.

The Thermomix® TM7™ blends it smooth in seconds, and a quick scrape with the spatula makes sure no lumps are left on the sides of the bowl. Avocado darkens as it sits, so make it close to mealtime and store the rest right away. Two avocados give you about a dozen small portions.

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Cut the avocados in half, remove the pits and scoop the flesh into the mixing bowl with a spoon.
  2. Add half of the liquid and blend 20 sec/speed 5.
  3. Scrape down the sides of the mixing bowl with the spatula, add the rest of the liquid and blend 15 sec/speed 6, until smooth and creamy. For a thinner mash, add more liquid, 1 tbsp at a time.
  4. Serve a small portion in a bowl right away. Cover the rest with plastic wrap pressed right onto the surface so it does not darken.

Tips

  • Ask your pediatrician before starting solids and about the right texture for your baby's age. First purees are usually very smooth; for an older baby, chop 3 sec/speed 4 instead, for a soft mash with tiny lumps.
  • A ripe avocado gives a little when you press it gently. Big green-skinned Florida avocados work too; they are more watery, so add less liquid.
  • Avocado is best fresh. Keep leftovers covered in the fridge up to 1 day, or blend it with water (not milk or formula) and freeze it in an ice cube tray for up to 1 month. A slightly darker top is normal: just stir it in.
  • Serve from a small bowl, not from the storage container, and throw away what your baby does not finish.
