Recipe in testing: I'm cooking it in my TM7™ and will update the steps and the photo with my own.

A small glass jar of smooth pale applesauce with a silicone baby spoon and two red apples beside it.

Homemade applesauce is one of the classic first foods, and it needs only apples and a little water. Sweet varieties like Gala or Fuji bring all the flavor, so there is no sugar, salt or honey in the pot. The result is a pale, gentle puree that most babies love from the first spoonful.

The Thermomix® TM7™ chops the apples first, so they cook soft in about twelve minutes, then blends them in the same bowl until silky. One batch gives you about two dozen small portions to freeze. It is also a handy applesauce for the whole family, on pancakes or stirred into oatmeal.

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Place the apples in the mixing bowl and chop 4 sec/speed 4.
  2. Scrape down the sides of the mixing bowl with the spatula, add the water and cook 12 min/100°C (212°F)/speed 1, until the apples are very soft.
  3. With the measuring cup in place, blend 1 min/speed 5-10, increasing speed gradually, until very smooth.
  4. Let the applesauce cool until lukewarm, check the temperature on the inside of your wrist and serve a small portion in a bowl.

Tips

  • Ask your pediatrician before starting solids and about the right texture for your baby's age. First purees are usually very smooth; for an older baby, blend only 5 sec/speed 4 for a chunkier applesauce.
  • Keep the applesauce covered in the fridge up to 3 days, or freeze it in an ice cube tray, then move the cubes to a freezer bag and use them within 2 months. Thaw in the fridge overnight.
  • Tart Granny Smith apples work too, mixed half and half with a sweeter apple, so you never need to add sugar.
  • Serve from a small bowl, not from the storage jar, and throw away what your baby does not finish.
