Recipe in testing: I'm cooking it in my TM7™ and will update the steps and the photo with my own.

A small glass jar of smooth bright green pea puree with a silicone baby spoon and fresh pea pods beside it.

A bag of frozen peas turns into a bright green puree with a fresh, gently sweet flavor in about fifteen minutes. Frozen peas are easy to find all year and need no shelling. This puree has only peas and their cooking water, with no salt, sugar or honey added.

The Thermomix® TM7™ cooks the peas straight from the freezer and then blends them with the cooking water, first gradually and then at high speed, for a smooth texture. Pea skins can leave tiny bits, so for the very first spoonfuls you can press the puree through a fine sieve.

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Place the frozen peas and the water in the mixing bowl and cook 10 min/100°C (212°F)/speed 1.
  2. With the measuring cup in place, blend 1 min/speed 5-10, increasing speed gradually.
  3. Scrape down the sides of the mixing bowl with the spatula and blend 30 sec/speed 10, until very smooth.
  4. For the smoothest first puree, press it through a fine mesh sieve with the back of a spoon to hold back the bits of skin.
  5. Let the puree cool until lukewarm, check the temperature on the inside of your wrist and serve a small portion in a bowl.

Tips

  • Ask your pediatrician before starting solids and about the right texture for your baby's age. First purees are usually very smooth and thin; as your baby grows, skip the sieve, blend less, and later offer soft peas mashed with a fork.
  • Keep the puree covered in the fridge up to 2 days, or freeze it in an ice cube tray, then move the cubes to a freezer bag and use them within 2 months. Thaw in the fridge overnight.
  • Cool the puree quickly, spread out in a wide container, to keep its bright green color.
  • Serve from a small bowl, not from the storage jar, and throw away what your baby does not finish.
