Strawberries, cantaloupe, pineapple, kiwi, grapes and blueberries on skewers in rainbow order, with a creamy dip.

Recipe in testing: I'm cooking it in my TM7™ and will update the steps and the photo with my own.

Wooden skewers of strawberries, pineapple, cantaloupe, kiwi, green grapes and blueberries in rainbow order, fanned out on a white platter.

Fruit skewers in rainbow order are the brightest thing on a party table, and kids love pulling them off the platter: strawberry, cantaloupe, pineapple, kiwi, green grape and blueberries, each skewer a little rainbow. They are cool and refreshing, a welcome break between salty snacks, especially on a hot Florida afternoon.

The Thermomix® TM7™ makes the dip: it grinds lime zest with sugar so the oils perfume the whole bowl, then blends it with cream cheese, Greek yogurt, honey and vanilla into a smooth, light dip. Put it in a bowl next to the skewers, or skip it and serve the fruit on its own.

Instructions

  1. Place the lime zest and sugar in the mixing bowl and chop 10 sec/speed 10.
  2. Add the cream cheese, yogurt, honey, vanilla and lime juice and mix 20 sec/speed 4, scraping down once, until smooth. Transfer to a bowl and refrigerate.
  3. Rinse and dry all the fruit well. Cut the strawberries in half if they are large, and cut the kiwis into pieces about the size of the melon cubes.
  4. Thread each skewer in rainbow order: a strawberry, a cube of cantaloupe, a cube of pineapple, a piece of kiwi, a green grape and 2 blueberries.
  5. Fan the skewers out on a platter and serve cold with the dip.

Tips

  • Cut fruit should not sit out more than 2 hours, or 1 hour on a hot day outdoors. For a backyard party, set the platter over a tray of ice.
  • Make ahead: thread the skewers up to 4 hours ahead, cover them with damp paper towels and refrigerate. The dip keeps 3 days in the fridge.
  • For little ones under 1 year old, make the dip with maple syrup instead of honey.
