Party Snack Mix

Crunchy oven-toasted mix of rice and corn cereal squares, pretzels, bagel chips and nuts in a savory butter.

Recipe in testing: I'm cooking it in my TM7™ and will update the steps and the photo with my own.

A large bowl of toasted savory snack mix with cereal squares, pretzels, round crackers and mixed nuts.

Savory snack mix is the bowl that never empties at holiday parties and game days: crunchy squares of rice and corn cereal, mini pretzels, bagel chips and mixed nuts, all coated in a buttery, savory seasoning with Worcestershire and garlic, then toasted low and slow until golden and crisp.

The Thermomix® TM7™ melts the butter with the Worcestershire sauce and spices into an evenly blended coating, so every piece gets the same flavor. The oven does the slow toasting, and stirring every 15 minutes is the only real work. Make a big batch: it keeps for two weeks in a tin.

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 120°C (250°F).
  2. Place the butter, Worcestershire, seasoned salt, garlic powder, onion powder and paprika in the mixing bowl and melt 3 min/80°C (175°F)/speed 2.
  3. Put the cereals, nuts, pretzels and bagel chips in a large roasting pan or a big rimmed baking sheet. Pour the warm seasoned butter over them and stir gently with a large spoon until every piece is coated.
  4. Bake in the oven for 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes, until toasted and dry.
  5. Spread the mix on paper towels and let it cool completely, about 20 minutes, so it turns crunchy.
  6. Serve in a big bowl, or store in an airtight container.

Tips

  • The mix keeps up to 2 weeks in an airtight container at room temperature. In humid weather, keep it in a tin with a tight lid.
  • Make it spicy with 1/4 tsp cayenne in the seasoned butter, or add 30 g (1/3 cup) of grated Parmesan in the last 15 minutes of baking.
  • Packed in small bags or jars, it makes an easy homemade holiday gift.
